Higher Moments in Number Theory

Abstract

Higher moment estimation is a useful tool in analytic number theory. When pointwise estimate is difficult to come by, higher moments yield useful information on the average. It is useful for testing the validity of conjectures "on average", giving W-results, yielding statistical information, and, in certain cases, even proving pointwise upper bounds. In this talk I will use examples to illustrate some of these applications.
