Abstract
I
will give a survey of the Kirwan convexity theorem
and some of its extensions. In particular, I will discuss versions of the
convexity theorem valid for Lagrangian subvarieties preserved by a real form of a reductive group
and for varieties preserved by a Borel subgroup.
These results generalize eigenvalue inequalities such
as those found by Weyl, Schur,
Horn, Klyachko and many others.
