Introduction to algebraic surfaces

Abstract

In the following 5 lectures, we intend to introduce very briefly the Enriques-Kodaira classification of algebraic surfaces. In Lecture 1, some basic notations and general theorems of algebraic geometry will be discussed. Lecture 2 is about intersection theory and linear systems on algebraic surfaces. In Lecture 3, we will discuss the factorization theorem of birational morphisms between two surfaces, Castelnuovo's criterion of exceptional curves and minimal models of surfaces. In Lecture 4, after some examples, we determine all minimal rational surfaces. In Lecture 5, we will give the picture of Enriques-Kodaira classification, then try to explain the surfaces with Kodaira dimension 0 and 1.
